USA: U.S. barley planting intentions of March 31 are 1.484 million Ha
U.S. barley planting intentions of March 31 are 1.484 million Ha, once more 5 % lower than the already low figure of last year. Ten years ago U.S. farmers still planted barley on an acreage of 2.9 million Ha. Experts even doubt that unchanged planting intentions of 485000 Ha in North Dakota will prove to be correct. Barley in the U.S. has become a specialty crop, which could be perilous to supplies of malting barley, if there were not neighbour Canada with ample crops. Barley stocks on the 1st of March were 3,6 million tonnes vs. 4,15 million tonnes in 2005.
