UK: McMullen is to open a new brewery next month in Hertford
Hertford brewer McMullen is planning to open a new GBP 1 million brewery in the town next month, Morning Advertiser posted on March 27. The new set up has been designed to produce economical small runs of 30 barrels of seasonal brews. It will be capable of producing 15,500 barrels a year.
Managing director Peter Furness-Smith told the Herts and Essex Mercury: "We currently have an enormous brewery a spaghetti of pipework brewing a small amount. What we've done is build something fit for purpose."
McMullen ended contract brewing for S&NUK in 2004 and now concentrates on brewing primarily for its own 135 pubs. The decision saved McMullen GBP 120,000 in progressive beer duty as it took production below 18,500 barrels.
