Barley news Australia: Perry Gunner re-elected ABB Grain chairman

ABB Grain announced on March 27 that Perry Gunner has been re-elected as chairman of ABB Grain Ltd at the meeting of the board held on March 27.

At the same meeting, grower director, Max Venning, was elected as deputy chairman and, in a break from tradition, Trevor Day was appointed chairman of ABB Grain Export Ltd – the body responsible for the barley export single desk in South Australia.

Mr Gunner first became chairman of ABB Grain in September 2004, following the company’s merger with AusBulk Ltd. Mr Venning was initially elected to the AusBulk board in October 2002 and became its chairman in March 2004. He has been a director of ABB since September 2004.

Previously, the chairman of ABB Grain was also chairman of ABB Grain Export, but this has changed with the appointment of Mr Day as chairman of the wholly owned export subsidiary ABB Grain Export.

ABB company secretary, Ashley Roff, said that ABB Grain’s board felt it was necessary to acknowledge public calls for further independence of ABB Grain Export. “Accordingly it was decided by the board that Trevor Day – a director with considerable experience as a grower – should be elected chairman of ABB Grain Export,” Mr Roff said.

Mr Day has had 13 years experience as a director of ABB and the preceding Australian Barley Board, and was chairman of ABB Grain from 1999-2004.
