USA : Boston Beer to move into space on the top floor of Design Center in South Boston.
Boston Beer, brewer of Sam Adams beer, will move into space on the top floor of the Design Center. The space was previously occupied by Boston Medical Center, said Duncan A.C. Gilkey, who manages the property. The company, now headquartered at 75 Arlington St., will move its corporate headquarters to the showroom and office building in South Boston by October 2006, according to Boston Business Jurnal of March 24.
Gilkey said Boston Beer will be on the same floor as Puma, the German apparel and footwear-make, which leases about 20,000 square feet of office space for its global marketing division. Boston Beer's offices are being designed by Boston-based Jung Brannen Associates Inc.
Vornado Realty Trust, a New York-based real estate investment and development firm agreed to buy the building last year for $96 million. The building is 552,000 square feet and approximately 98 percent occupied by a variety of office and retail tenants. It features 78 showrooms with furniture, fabric and other interior design products and services.
Vornado owns 80 retail centers nationwide, including Chicago's Merchandise Mart. The Merchandise Mart, a division of Vornado, manages the Design Center.
