Brewing news Belarus: In 2005 beer production in Belarus up by 19.5 per cent

The production of strong alcoholic beverages and beer of Belarus slumped by 4.1 per cent in January 2005.

In 2005 Belarus produced 2.72 million hl of beer, or 19.5 % more against 2004, BelTA has been told in the ministry of statistics and analysis of the country.

Last year Belgospischeprom companies made 1.63 million hl of the beverage, or 39.5 per cent more against 2004.

According to the statistics ministry, in January-November 2005 beer export has halved - down to 855,8 thousand dekalitres, including re-export – 3,8 times down to 123,8 thousand dekalitres.

Import, on the contrary, has tripled up to 3,8 million dekalitres including 3,4 million dekalitres from Russia and 338,1 thousand dekalitres from Ukraine. Comparing with January-November, 2004 beer imports from Russia went up 5,2 times, from Ukraine – reduced by 37.6 %.

In 2005 Belarus posted a 38.6 % increase in beer sales as against 2004 (the total sales 3.01 million hl in 2005). Some 30,65 liters of beer accounted per capita last year as against 22,2 liters in 2004, reports the statistics ministry.
