Brewing news USA: American Red Cross acknowledges The Gambrinus Company for its Donations to Hurricane Katrina and Rita Relief Effort

The Gambrinus Company announced on February 27 that Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, chairman of the American Red Cross, visited The Gambrinus Company's headquarters in San Antonio, Texas, to personally thank the brewer and importer for its contributions to the relief efforts following the devastation caused by the hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico.

In addition to its $100,000 donation to the Red Cross, right after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, Gambrinus assembled a team consisting of headquarter and field sales personnel. With advice from its respective local beer wholesalers, the team identified charitable organizations as recipients of an additional $200,000 donation to the affected communities.

Carlos Alvarez, president of The Gambrinus Company, stated, "The personal involvement of our folks in the management of the contribution was extremely gratifying. The experience of our local distributors in these communities was invaluable in helping identify the potential recipients."

The $200,000 donation was distributed to local chapters of the United Way in Texas and Mississippi. In Louisiana, donations were made both to the local United Way and Habitat for Humanity. In addition, the Spoetzl Brewery donated canned water to the relief effort in New Orleans.

The Gambrinus Company is an importer of beers from Grupo Modelo of Mexico and Moosehead Breweries of Canada, and brewer of Shiner, Bridgeport, Pete's, and Trumer Pils.
