Ireland: Heieneken increases share of Irish beer market up to 20.5%
Heineken Ireland has increased its share of the Irish beer market from 19.4% to 20.5% for the year ended December, 31 2005, according to Post Ireland. At the announcement of the Brewerys annual results today, Nico Vervelde, Managing Director, also confirmed Heineken Irelands turnover for the year was 325m an increase of 4.5% on 2004.
The Irish beer market is now worth over 3bn. Relative to previous years, the beer market downturn appears to be levelling off with a 0.7% decrease recorded for the year.
For 2005, the On-Trade market experienced a decline of 3.7% with the Off-Trade segment growing by 11%. The On-Trade now commands a 77 % share of the total beer market with the Off-Trade increasing its share of the market to 23%.
Within the beer market, lager volumes grew by 3.5 % in 2005 and now hold a 55% share of the total beer market.
Stout experienced a decline for the same period of 5% and now commands a 38% share of the beer market in Ireland.
Heinekens beers now hold a 17% share in the Off-Trade sector and a 21% share of the On-Trade sector.
