Brewing news Czech Republic: Pivovar Nova Paka almost doubles beer exports in 2005

Czech brewery Pivovar Nova Paka raised beer exports by 86 % to 27,500 hectolitres last year, selling almost half of output abroad, director Jaromir Bulko told CTK Czech News on February 21.

The overall production of the brewery increased by a quarter to 57,160 hectolitres thanks to exports. "We managed to open the market in Sweden, which accounted for about a half of last year's increase," Bulko said.

The brewery was also successful in Poland and on its largest markets in Germany and the Baltic states. Other foreign customers were the US, Finland, Korea, Israel, Spain and Switzerland.

This year, Pivovar Nova Paka wants to increase output to 60,000 hectolitres. The growth should be achieved mainly on the domestic market, Bulko said. The brewery with some 60 staff should post a profit in the order of hundreds of thousands of crowns for 2005, like in previous years. Last year's turnover should reach some CZK 80 million.

Overall Czech beer exports rose by 17 percent to 3.1 million hectolitres last year, according to data from the Czech Association of Breweries and Malt Houses.
