Barley news World: The latest overview on barley tenders

Japan’s Food Agency 220kt feed barley under the simultaneous buy and sell system (SBS) for Dec/Feb. The feed barley SBS tender will be the fifth and last SBS tender. For the previous four tenders 780kt feed wheat has been bought against targeted total 1.0Mmt, according to the Food Agency Japan.

China barley imports for Jan/Oct 2005 equate 1.880Mmt (Oct 140kt) about 24pct increase to same time last year.

The trade today are likely to again bid for a positive refund and Brussels will reject. They can also bid for about 404kt intervention stocks for Third Country exports and about 50kt for transportation to Spain.

Bids are likely to be limited and Brussels will hope to sell a small amount. Interesting to see the new data today for the quantity applied into intervention since Nov 1st.

Third Country nominal quotes for Mediterranean destinations with values based EU execution to Algeria about $155, Morocco about $154 and based optional origin to Saudi Arabia is about $161.

Brussels’ daily import tariff is at €93. Feed barley import tariff quota for Jan/Dec 2005 (300kt at €16) has all been granted. Import tariffs (based on US barley prices) presently in force for rye and sorghum at €34.38.
