Russia: Russky Solod sold 320,000 t of malt of crop year 2005/06. Russian malt prices
The largest Russian maltster, Russky Solod, reported sales of their maximum capacities of 320,000 tonnes for the crop year of 2005/2006. The company revealed it plans to raise its total capacity to 0.5 million tonnes over the next few years.
Russian statistics show the result of a larger domestic malt production: Imports dropped from 550,000 tonnes in the calendar year of 2004 to 180,000 tonnes in the first semester of this year.
Russian malt prices are reported to be 250,- / 270,- ex works for first class malt, produced from imported barley, but only 230,-/ 250,- for first class malt of Russian barley of Western varieties, another 20,- less for fair average quality. (All prices excl. VAT.)
Malteurop opened officially its Ukrainian malthouse expansions at Charkov and Chernigov: they will produce a total of 150.000 tons of malt.
