Malting news United Kingdom: Crisp Maltings Group acquired by a group of private investors

Ragleth Ltd has acquired the share capital of Anglia Maltings Holdings that owns UK maltster Crisp Malting Group and food ingredients specialist Edme. Ragleth Ltd comprises a group of private investors led by David Thompson, non-executive chairman of Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries, and Edward Whitley, managing director of Whitley Asset Management.

“We look forward to working with the management of Crisp Maltings and of Edme. These are two successful businesses operating in distinct niches with potential for future development,” David Thompson said commenting on the purchase.

Crisp is certified as a producer of Assured UK Malt, the world’s first malt assurance scheme covering food safety, product legality, good operational practice and product quality. The scheme meets the high standards set by the International Accreditation Forum.

The Crisp Malting Group is based at Great Ryburgh, Norfolk while Edme has a manufacturing operation at Mistley, Essex. Crisp operates maltings at Great Ryburgh, Ditchingham in Suffolk, plus Scottish plants at Alloa and Portgordon Speyside. Worldwide sales total over 215,000 tonne annually.
