EU: Outline on European barley markets for August
210,000 tonnes of EU barley export licences were fixed in August, most of them early in the month. Declining markets in the Black Sea and a firm Euro have put EU feed barley out of competition in world markets. Domestic markets, which had been firm in summer due to a large Spanish demand, declined back to intervention levels.
Malting barley followed down in most markets, when harvest news were good from Northern Europe and maltsters abstained from buying.
