Brewing news UK: Adnams employs Germans to replace its present equipment

Adnams brewery intends to replace its present brewery production equipment. For this responsibility the Suffolk brewer selected the German brew-house manufacturer-Huppmann. The whole project is estimated to cost £3.8m and will take two years for completion.

Huppmann, a family-owned firm - in the last five years has installed 70 brewhouses through-out the world, including ones for Heineken, Guinness, Carlsberg, Tetley and Kronenbourg.Huppmann will work alongside several local contractors, most notably Duncans of Southwold, who will be responsible for fitting the equipment and making the necessary alterations to the brewery building.

Adnams managing director Jonathan Adnams said: “We have visited many breweries across Europe during the last three years researching this project. It is a major investment for Adnams, which reinforces our commitment to Southwold. This final major step in the development of the brewery will result in Adnams having the most modern brewing facilities in Europe. Huppmann will deliver cutting-edge technology and has a proven track record throughout the world.” One of the main energy savings will be made by recovering steam from the boiling process which is now released into the atmosphere. The steam is condensed and recycled to heat the following brew.

The new equipment is believed to make Adnams the most modern, energy-efficient brewery in United Kingdom.
