News from e-malt Canada: The Beer Store is serving and conserving

During this hot summer weather, The Beer Store is taking steps to act on the government of Ontario's request for businesses to do their part in helping to conserve energy.

"Taking measures to reduce power usage is the right thing for The Beer Store - and all businesses - to do," says Scott Simmons, vice president, marketing and business development for The Beer Store. "We have already implemented measures such as keeping lobby lights and exterior signage off during the day, and increasing the temperature on refrigeration units. At The
Beer Store, we are both serving and conserving."

"Environmental responsibility is one of The Beer Store's core values, and we pride ourselves on our award-winning commitment to environmental leadership," continues Simmons. The Beer Store is a global leader in the practice of "extended producer responsibility", meaning it takes back all packaging material it sells - from cardboard to glass bottles to bottle caps - and either recycles or reuses it. Its efficient packaging and recovery system aims to recover 100 per cent of beer packaging. Cartons, bags, plastic bottles, and every other kind of beer packaging are also welcomed back. The Beer Store was honoured with three key awards for environmental leadership at the Recycling Council of Ontario's 2004 Waste Minimization Awards.

To promote conservation in communities throughout the province, The Beer Store has partnered with the Conservation Council of Ontario as a proud sponsor of their new "we conserve" initiative, a program designed to build a stronger conservation movement across Ontario. For more information on the "we conserve" program, visit, www.weconserve.ca.

The Beer Store is the primary distribution and sales channel for beer in Ontario, operating 437 retail stores, and serving 17,500 licensed customers, 600 government-owned LCBO retail locations, 113 Retail Partners, and 82 Northern Agents. Customers can choose from more than 325 beer brands from over 70 brewers around the world. The Beer Store is proud of its 77-year history of social responsibility and environmental leadership.
