Philippines: SMC bags Monde Selection's grand gold medal award
SAN Miguel Corporation (SMC) again affirmed its stature as one of the world's leaders in brewing technology, with the company's breweries here and overseas, garnering a grand gold medal, 13 gold medals, nine silver medals and two trophies in the 2005 Monde Selection, The Sun Star posted on June 25.
After conducting quality testing on various products it receives yearly, the prestigious Institute International Pour Les Selections De La Qualite (International Institute for Quality Selections) based in Brussels, Belgium, awarded gold medals to SMC flagship brand San Miguel Pale Pilsen, as well as to San Mig Light and San Mig Strong Ice Brewed in the Philippines. Super Dry Beer, another perennial award-winner, copped a silver medal.
SMC's Australian brewery, J. Boag & Son, received a gold medal and an international high quality trophy for its Draught Beer. J. Boag's Premium Lager, Strongarm Bitter, Premium Light, Light Draught bagged a gold medal each in the annual Monde Selection, now on its 44th edition.
The Monde Selection board composed of industry experts likewise recognized San Miguel Pale Pilsen brewed by San Miguel Brewery Vietnam with grand gold medal and an international high quality trophy. A gold medal also went to San Mig Light that SMBW launched last year in the Vietnamese market.
San Mig Light brewed by San Miguel Brewery Hong Kong and Guangzhou San Miguel Brewery (GSMB) likewise garnered a gold medal each. In addition, GSMB's San Miguel Pale Pilsen romped off with a gold medal and its San Mig Gan Shuang brew, a silver medal.
Silver medal awards of quality, meanwhile, went to Blue Star of San Miguel Baoding Brewery, to Platinum Dragon and Dragon Beer of San Miguel Guangdong Brewery, and to Anker Bir, Batavia Lager Beer, Sodaku Soda Ice and Kuda Putih of PT Delta Djakarta, SMC's brewery in Indonesia.
The consistent superior quality of San Miguel's beer products throughout its different country markets is primarily maintained through SMC's modem Technical Center at the Company's brewery in Polo, Valenzuela City.
The center houses a central analytical laboratory, a pilot brewery and a brewing school to train personnel from all San Miguel breweries, locally or abroad, on new technologies and know-how, as well as impart to them the San Miguel brewing tradition developed for over a hundred years.
