News from e-malt China: Tsingtao Brewery Taiwan starts production

A brewing plant in Taiwan built by Chinese beer giant Tsingtao Brewery Co. and Taiwanese drink manufacturer Sanyo Whisbih Group has begun production, the central bank-backed Financial News reported on June 23. The annual beer output of the plant is expected to be of 100,000 tonnes. The first phase of production is likely to yield half that amount, the report says.

Tsingtao hopes to take a one-fourth share of the Taiwan's beer market in the short term, the report says.

In 2002, Tsingtao entered the Taiwan market first by distributing its well-known beer brand on the island through Taiwan Tsing Beer Corp., the sole agent for Tsingtao in Taiwan and a unit of Sanyo Whisbih.
