Brazil: Imports of malt are to increase
In 2003-2004 Brazil imported 810,000 metric tonnes of malt (grain equivalent). About two thirds of the quantity come from Mercosur, analysts said. In 2004-2005 Brazil is forecasted to import 850,000 metric tonnes of malt (grain equivalent). It is reported that Cargill will build a new malthouse in Rosario/Argentina.
Last year Brazils beer output remained stable at around 85 million hl, a small improvement is hoped for in 2005.
