Wisky news India: Allied Blenders & Distillers confirms purchase of Fullarton Distilleries

India-based Allied Blenders & Distillers (ABD) has confirmed its purchase of Fullarton Distilleries for an undisclosed fee, Global Drinks Intel reported on February 6.

The deal sees ABD, which claims to be India’s third biggest spirits company, gain control of brands including Woodburns Contemporary Indian Whisky, Pumori Small Batch Gin and Segredo Aldeia Rum. ABD said it is “strategically positioning itself to meet the evolving demands of India’s super-premium and luxury spirits consumers”.

Based in the western state of Goa, Fullarton’s Woodburns brand is currently available in six unspecified states and union territories, with “expansion plans underway for other major markets”, according to ABD. Pumori and Segredo Aldeia are present in the on-premise channel “in key markets such as Maharashtra and Goa”.

“We recognise that the luxury segment is where we have a right to win, where we can truly add value,” said ABD’s MD, Alok Gupta. “Acquiring these brands is a natural next step in our premiumisation strategy.

“This isn’t just an acquisition; it demonstrates our deep understanding of where we can create the most value.”

Headquartered in Mumbai, ABD produces whisky brands Officer’s Choice and Sterling Reserve brands. The group launched an initial public offering last year.
