Brewing news Ireland: Diageo to ramp up Guinness production in Ireland

In response to a significant surge in demand, the production of Guinness beer is set to be ramped up in Ireland. This decision comes after reports of supply shortages in British pubs during the festive season, highlighting the brand's popularity despite a general decline in beer consumption, The Munich Eye reported on February 4.

According to a recent announcement by Diageo, the British beverage company that owns Guinness, the firm has experienced a remarkable 13 percent increase in sales during the second half of 2024. This growing demand prompted some establishments in the UK to ration their Guinness supply as they depleted their reserves to meet customer needs.

Diageo's CEO noted that the company is committed to working continuously to restore stock levels and is implementing rapid production increases. In addition to scaling up production, Diageo is investing EUR200 million in a new brewery located in Kildare, Ireland, further solidifying its commitment to meeting the rising consumer preference for Guinness.

The anticipated production boost aims to alleviate the strain on supplies and ensure that consumers can enjoy their favorite stout without interruption. As the festive period approaches, Diageo is taking proactive measures to ensure that Guinness remains accessible to its loyal customers.

This initiative reflects broader trends within the beverage industry, where certain brands are experiencing increased popularity even as overall beer consumption declines. The strong performance of Guinness serves as a testament to the brand's enduring appeal and the effectiveness of Diageo's strategic investments in production capabilities.
