World: Barley trade forecast for 2024/25 down in USDAs December report
Global barley trade forecast for 2024/25 is reduced in USDAs December report to 25.989 mln tonnes from 26.489 mln tonnes forecast in November and compared to 31.944 mln tonnes forecast for 2023/24.
Export forecasts are down for Australia (6.2 mln tonnes vs. 6.7 mln last month), the EU (6.2 mln tonnes vs. 6.3 mln), but Canada is now expected to ship 2.1 mln tonnes of barley abroad versus 2 mln tonnes forecast in November. Barley import forecast is down for China (10 mln tonnes vs. 10.5 mln in November).
World barley crop is now forecast at 142.077 mln tonnes compared to 141.798 mln tonnes forecast in November but still below the 143.259 mln tonnes forecast for 2023/24.
Total barley consumption is seen at 146.213 mln tonnes (145.963 mln tonnes forecast in November, 142.45 mln tonnes forecast for 2023/24) and ending stocks at 17.57 mln tonnes (17.477 and 21.706 mln tonnes, respectively).
