Barley news Ukraine: Barley harvest totals 5.6 mln tonnes from 1.4 mln ha this year

Ukrainian farmers harvested over 68.9 million tonnes of new grain and oilseed crops from 18.9 million hectares of farmland as of November 8, compared to 66.7 million tonnes from 18.6 million hectares a week before, Interfax reported on November 8.

In particular, they harvested 49.9 million tonnes of grain (47.2 million tonnes a week before) and 19 million tonnes of oilseeds (18.8 million tonnes), Ukrainian media reported with reference to the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry on Friday.

Farmers have finished harvesting wheat, gathering 22.3 million tonnes from 4.9 million hectares, with a yield of 4.24 tonnes per hectare, 5.6 million tonnes of barley from 1.4 million hectares with a yield of 3.92 tonnes per hectare, 470,400 tonnes of peas from 212,200 hectares with a yield of 2.19 tonnes per hectare, and 3.5 million tonnes of rapeseed from 1.3 million hectares with a yield of 2.73 tonnes per hectare, it said.

They are continuing to harvest corn, having gathered 20.2 million tonnes (18.3 million tonnes a week before) from 3.3 million hectares (83% of the target), 127,200 tonnes of buckwheat (126,900 tonnes) from 87,800 hectares (99%), and 160,300 tonnes of millets (160,200 tonnes) from 86,500 hectares (93%).

Farmers in 16 regions across Ukraine have also harvested 10.7 million tonnes of sugar beets from 223,200 hectares (87% of the target).

They are completing the harvesting of oilseed crops. In particular, they have gathered 5.8 million tonnes of soybeans (5.73 million tonnes a week before) from 2.5 million hectares (96%) and 9.7 million tonnes of sunflower (9.599 million tonnes) from 4.7 million hectares (95%).

The largest amounts of grain crops have been harvested in the Odessa region (4.4 million tonnes), the Poltava region (4.1 million tonnes), and the Chernigov region (4 million tonnes).
