Brewing news USA, IL: Revolution Brewing to consolidate from two Chicago locations to one

The state’s largest independent craft brewery will soon be consolidating from two Chicago locations to one, AOL.com reported on November 3.

Revolution Brewing will close its brewpub in Logan Square on Saturday, Dec. 14. The business announced the decision on its Facebook page over the weekend. The Logan Square brewpub, located at 2323 North Milwaukee Avenue, opened in February 2010.

“The brewpub is where the first Revolution beers were served and where we first brewed beers like Anti-Hero IPA, which would change the shape of craft beer in Chicagoland,” says the Facebook post, in part. “Today that chapter of our story starts to wind down, as we announce that we are permanently closing the doors of the Logan Square brewpub.”

However, Revolution’s taproom in Avondale, located at 3340 North Kedzie Avenue, will not be impacted, the business says. The taproom opened in 2012 as one of the first bars in the city to serve beer made on-site.

“Our Kedzie Avenue production brewery and tap room opened just two years after the pub, and that’s where our business thrives now and where we will remain fully operational and open to the public,” the business says on Facebook. “We’re making investments at that location to retain jobs, increase our sustainability and keep our overall business strong, even in the face of increased competition for craft brewers.”

Revolution founder Josh Deth admitted to Eater Chicago that by making customers choose between the Logan Square brewpub and the Avondale taproom, the business “cannibalized its clientele.”

“Hopefully someone else will come around and want to take over (the Logan Square brewpub) and do something in this space, and then we’ll consolidate down to one location,” Deth told Eater Chicago.

In the meantime, Revolution says customers have about five more weeks to enjoy the Logan Square brewpub before its doors close.

“The brewpub will be open five more weeks for you to get all nostalgic over some cheese curds, smash burgers and frothy pints,” the post says. “We hope to see some familiar faces come raise a glass to a 15-year run on Milwaukee Avenue.

“Our deepest thanks to everyone who stopped in over the years. It was a pleasure to serve you.”
