Brewing news USA, KY: West Sixth Brewing to open a new location in Covington

Lexington-based West Sixth Brewing is set to open a location in Covington, LINK nky reported on July 10.

The West Sixth Covington Haus will be located at 100 West Sixth Street, which previously held Flying Axes until it closed its doors last month.

West Sixth’s current Northern Kentucky location at the Bridge View Box Park at Newport on the Levee will close, and the staff and management will move to the Covington location this fall, per a release from the brewery.

This historic building has had many tenants, one of the most well-known being ‘Covington Haus’ bar and restaurant, led by the late Mick Noll, an advocate for the city of Covington.

“When we found this space and learned the history of the building and the Noll’s involvement in the community, we knew we wanted to pay tribute to the history by naming the location West Sixth Covington Haus,” Ben Self, co-founder of West Sixth Brewing said in a press release. “His family has graciously given their blessing for the use of the name and shared some wonderful stories about the bar’s legacy with us.”

The building is also home to Second Story cocktail bar on the (you guessed it) second floor. Per the release from West Sixth, “the duo further solidifies the building’s reputation as a vibrant community hub.”

The brewery is also starting a new distribution relationship with Walton-based Chas Seligman Distributing Co., which the release stated will “further enhance West Sixth’s footprint in Northern Kentucky.”

“West Sixth Brewing is a very successful business in Lexington. Having Lexington’s West Sixth Brewing at 100 West Sixth in Covington is very appropriate,” Covington Mayor Joe Meyer said in the release. “Their decision to incorporate the name of the first restaurant after its conversion from a firehouse to a gathering place, Covington Haus, is a fun reference to the past and a fitting nod to Mick Noll and the entire Noll family. Welcome to Covington! We wish West Sixth rousing success.”
