Brewing news USA, PA: Mad Princes Brewing to cease operations this summer

An eastern Pennsylvania brewery is closing this summer, PennLive.com reported on July 10.

“Friends, it is with a sad and heavy heart that we must make an announcement that has recently become all too common in the craft brewing industry: After over 8 1/2 years, Mad Princes Brewing will be ceasing operations,” it posted on Facebook.

Owners Jim and Kurt Ludwig said the Doylestown, Bucks County brewery will likely close by the end of July or early August.

“It depends on how long the beer holds out and other factors,” they said.

They didn’t share a reason for the closing, but referenced the pandemic’s impact on business: “To paraphrase the great Stoic Philosopher, John ‘no IPAs’ Rambo - ‘Mad Princes got themselves killed in COVID, and they didn’t even know it...’”

The owners said they will miss being a part of the Bucks County brewing community, participating in local beer festivals and events and being part of the Bucks County Ale Trail.

“But most of all, you, our customers. Without you, we would not have been able to share this hectic and rewarding journey together,” they said.

Mad Princes brews various beer styles including pale ales, stouts and Kolsch to lesser-known Eisbier and Berliner Weisse.

As a goodbye, the brewery will release a final beer, the last sixtel of the 2022 “St. Lazarus Lemming” Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Barleywine. It will be limited to two 6-ounce pours per visit.
