Ukraine: Ukraine's barley market share is likely to decline, although the country will retain its position as one of the largest barley exporters. Export of Ukrainian barley tends downwards. Vessels with total capacity of 160KMT were requested for loading between March 1 - 20, and slightly more than 310KMT of Ukrainian barley was shipped in February.

Late spring in Ukraine may cause shrinking of barley crops and greater supply of this grain on the domestic market. The actual weather conditions contradicted Ukrainian farmers' expectations of an early spring, according to UkrAgroConsult. Current warming on all of Ukraine's territory is only an attempt by spring to come to the fore but an unsuccessful one, according to weather forecasters. They expect a significant decline in air's temperature on 19-20 March. In particular, the Crimea should expect minus 2-4 C.

There is a question about the late spring's effect on agriculture. Long-lasting night frost may curtail areas under spring barley, as one of the earliest crops. The Crimea is a good example of this tendency, because the optimal deadline for sowing of spring barley was 10 March.
