Ukraine: In 2004-2005 Ukraine might export about 4.2 million tonnes of barley, according to the forecast of Ukrainian analytical agency Proagro. In 2003-2004, Ukraines barley exports stood at 2.56 million tonnes, Proagro estimated.
IGCs estimation for Ukraine barley exports in 2003-2004 is of 1.5 million tonnes. Ukrainian barley export in 2004-2005 is forecast by IGC to be of 4.0 million tonnes, according to IGC Februarys report. This forecast increased by 0.4 million tonnes versus the January one. IGC said this reflects heavy shipments of feed barley, reaching about 3.5 million tonnes as at end January, and continued strong demand, particularly from Near East Asia and North Africa. This is a marked turnaround from the situation a year ago when a poor harvest resulted in sharply lower exports of 1.5 million tonnes, IGC (International Grain Council) said.
