Japan, Tokyo: Market research firm INTAGE INC has reported that retail prices for beer, low-malt beer and so-called third beer jumped by up to 7 % in January. The rise came after four brewers scrapped rebates for wholesalers and changed other trading customs during the month, Asia in Focus commented on February 25. The finding is based on a comparison of the firm's two price surveys, which covered 350 supermarkets and 100 discount stores. The sharpest price increase was the 7 per cent rise for third beer, a beer-flavored alcoholic beverage, sold at discount stores.
