EU: Market lower for both malting and feed barley
The EU market is lower across the board this period for both malting and feed barley, RMI Analytics said in their latest December report.
Two key price moves are: the convergence of crop 2022 and 2023 prices for malting barley, and the malting premium narrowing over feed barley. The market is very quiet with a general absence of buyers and sellers with malt shipments for 2023 mostly priced for the crop 2022 portion with end-users, but the crop 2023 portion still has open demand.
The USDA reduced EU corn production by 0.6 mln tonnes, adding some further underlying support to feed grains, including feed barley.
