EU: Barley production forecast to slightly decrease in 2022/23
The EU-27 barley production is forecast to total 51.464 mln tonnes in 2022/23, slightly down from 51.973 mln in 2021/22 and considerably below the 53.957 mln tonnes harvested in 2020/21, the EU Commission said in its October, 27th Supply & Demand report.
In spite of an increase in imports (1.2 mln vs. 1.061 mln in 2021/22), the blocks 2022/23 barley consumption is forecast to remain almost unchanged from last year, at 42.503 mln tonnes.
Exports, including malt in grain equivalent, are forecast at 9.959 mln tonnes (10.5 mln last year, 10.646 mln the year before).
Ending stocks are seen at 4.742 mln tonnes versus 4.541 mln tonnes in 2021/22 and 4.526 mln tonnes in 2020/21.
