Germany: Hop crop expected to decline by 20% this year
Weather conditions were unfavourable for hop development in Germany this year, especially during the important months of July and August, HVG said in their late August report.
High temperatures and low precipitation during the flowering period and cone development will lead to a below-average crop. This assumption is based on the official crop estimate recently conducted by representatives of the brewing industry, hop trade and hop growers. They expect 20% less hops than in 2021 (about 38,124 tonnes this year). Furthermore, alpha acids will probably also be below-average.
Hop growers in Tettnang have already started harvesting, the Hallertau region will follow next week and Elbe-Saale another week later.
