Australia: Main barley production regions looking very good
A break in rainfall in central New South Wales allowed barley planting to wrap up, including some barley area. The result is a very late crop start in this region which increases the potential for quality or yield problems, RMI Analytics said in their early August report.
Otherwise, Australias main barley production regions look very good at this stage, as additional rain and moderate temperatures are creating an excellent crop development situation.
RMI Analytics crop estimate for Australian barley remains at 11 mln tonnes with potential to stretch to 11.5 mln tonnes.
Barley prices are lower across all port zones while Australia remains the cheapest global barley source. Residual barley demand looks to Australia to fulfil, an example being a tender earlier this month for malting barley to Mexico.
