World: China sees decline in January-May beer output, German beer sales up 7.3% during the period
Belgian beer output in 2021 is reported at approximately 23.95 mln hl, of which for export at 17.5 mln and for domestic consumption 6.45 mln hl, H. M. Gauger GmbH said earlier this month.
Chinese beer output in April saw a minus of 18, May was much better at minus 0.7%; January-May production was 142.6 mln hl, minus 5.2% y/y.
German beer sales were 8.68 mln hl in May, plus 14.4% y/y, January-May volume totalled 34.66 mln hl, plus 7.3% y/y. Domestic sales in January-May were up by 10.2%, exports down 4.5%. In 2021, sales of alcohol-free beer were 6.6 mln hl, minus 1.1% y/y, which are not part of the official beer statistics. Therefore the real domestic beer consumption was 76.2 mln hl, minus 3.2% vs. 2020.
U.S. domestic beer sales were 14.6 mln bbls. in May, minus 2.2%, January-May volume amounted to 66.9 mln bbls., minus 3.3% y/y. U.S. beer imports amounted to 3.55 mln bbls. in April, plus 3.7%; January-April to 13.065 mln bbls., plus 8% y/y, of which from Mexico 10.43 mln bbls., plus 18.6% y/y.
