World: Barley trade, production, consumption, and ending stocks forecasts lower in USDA’s June report

World barley trade 2022/23 is forecast to reach 30.516 mln tonnes in USDA’s June report, down from the 31.116 mln forecast in the May report. Total shipments in 2021/22 are forecast at 30.49 mln tonnes.

Barley exports forecast is reduced for Australia (to 6.2 mln tonnes from 6.5 mln last month), the EU (7.1 mln from 7.3 mln), Ukraine (1.8 mln vs. 2), and only increased for the UK (850 thousand tonnes from 750 thousand in May).

Import forecast is down for Saudi Arabia (5 mln tonnes vs. 5.5 mln in May) and Libya (750 thousand tonnes vs. 850).

World barley production forecast is down this month – at 147.26 mln tonnes versus 148.968 mln tonnes forecast for 2022/23 in May and but still higher than 145.009 mln tonnes forecast for 2021/22.

Crop forecast is up for the UK (7.05 mln tonnes vs. 6.85 mln forecast last month) and down for a number of other countries (the EU – 51.7 mln vs 52.5 mln tonnes, Australia – 11 mln vs. 11.5, Algeria – 1.6 mln vs. 1.8, India – 1.6 mln vs. 1.7, and Ukraine – 5.7 mln tonnes vs. 6 mln).

Total consumption is forecast at 147.168 mln tonnes (vs. 148.568 mln in the May report and 148.568 mln forecast for 2021/22) and ending stocks are seen at 16.874 mln tonnes (16.888 and 16.782, respectively).
