EU & UK: Weather remains mostly favourable but barley production forecast drops to 60 mln tonnes
Favourable weather remains the story across most of Europe with a continuation of above normal temperatures in most of Western Europe, RMI Analytics said in their late March report.
The main change since early March is further east where temperatures have shifted to much colder and are hampering the roll-out of spring plantings, the analysts said.
Crop conditions remain favourable with France 2 row-spring planting complete and Germany/UK advancing very well. Despite the positive situation, RMI Analytics crop 2022 production forecast drops to 60 mln tonnes, due to the strong competition for planted area from other crops.
As the key barley origin globally, and with its position intensified by the current situation, European prices remain very strong. French wheat futures are strong, forcing French barley to keep pace to the upside.
