EU: Barley crop forecast at 51.973 mln tonnes in 2021/22

The European Commission’s Barley Supply and Demand Balance of February 23, 2022 forecasts the EU-27 2021/22 barley crop at 51.973 mln tonnes versus 53.957 mln in 2020/21, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in March.

Imports are forecast to increase to 2 mln tonnes and consumption to 44 mln tonnes, from 1 and 43.9 ml tonnes, respectively.

Barley exports including malt are seen at 10 mln tonnes vs. 9.5 mln in 2020/21 and ending stocks are expected to drop to only 2 mln tonnes from 4.102 mln tonnes the year before.
