Russia & Ukraine: Barley supplies now very tight in both countries
Russia has introduced an export quota for shipments between February, 15 and June, 30 of 8.0 mln tonnes of wheat and 3.0 mln tonnes of barley, corn and rye combined, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their February report.
Russias export taxes remain in force, the present duty on barley is around US$74.40 per tonne.
Export shipments by January, 20 were 5.55 mln tonnes from Ukraine (last year 3.8 mln) and 2.35 mln tonnes (last year 3.73) from Russia. Barley supplies in both countries have become very tight. The recent Turkish tender for 345 thousand tonnes will be supplied almost exclusively from Ukraine.
Conditions of winter grains have been fair to-date in both countries. UkrAgroConsult forecasts a 2022 barley crop of 21.2 mln tonnes for Russia (last year 18 mln) and 8.3 mln tonnes for Ukraine (last year 9.4 mln), all based on speculative yield expectations.
