EU: Barley crop forecast at 52.024 mln tonnes in 2021/22

The European Commission’s barley supply & demand balance report of January 27 forecasts the EU-27 barley crop 2021/22 at 52.024 mln tonnes – down from 53.957 mln tonnes in 2020/21 and 55.024 mln tonnes in 2019/20, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier this month.

With imports expected to drop to 1 mln tonnes from 1.249 and 1.893 mln tonnes respectively, the EU-27 barley consumption 2021/22 is forecast to total 43.905 mln tonnes (versus 44.417 and 44.022 mln tonnes, respectively).

Exports, including malt in grain equivalent, are seen at 9.5 mln tonnes versus 10.647 and 10.501 mln tonnes, and ending stocks at 4.153 mln tonnes versus 4.534 in 2020/21 and 4.353 mln tonnes in 2019/20.
