EU: French barley prices down due to little demand present
The French barley market has dropped as quantities have flowed into the market at a time with little demand present, RMI Analytics reported earlier this month.
The import of Argentina barley should keep a lid on prices in the short term but market direction will continue to come from the demand side.
French prices are more stable in crop 2022, only down slightly in 2 row spring, whereas 6 row winter varieties are mostly unchanged.
While UK prices are following French prices and have decreased, it is interesting to note that Danish prices have remained stable. The UK market is very quiet with most trade participants withdrawn at the moment. Winter crop progress is good in the UK, which is positive but still some time before harvest so the market is guarded. Tight stocks and concern about lower crop 2022 area is keeping Danish values well supported at the moment.
