World: Barley supplies look well after bumper crops in Argentina and Australia
World barley supplies look well after bumper crops of Argentina and Australia, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their February report.
The demand of China has increased to 12.5 mln tonnes, the country relies on the known four sources (Argentina/Canada/France/Ukraine). Saudi Arabian purchases have gone down to approximately 6.5 mln tonnes since the liberalization of the import market; consumer subsidies (per heads of livestock) have increased the usage of compound feed to the detriment of barley. Turkey has just bought another 325 thousand tonnes of barley and may import close to 3 mln tonnes in the crop year 2021/22. The whole Middle East and North Africa are large barley buyers.
The USDA estimates the world demand of this crop year at 34 mln tonnes, in the Gauger analysts opinion the figure must be 3 - 4 mln tonnes higher.
