World: Malting barley prices edge up on bad weather impact
The malting barley prices on the global market are advancing higher due to weather impact in Canada and the EU, industry sources report.
Canadas prices are up as severe hight temperatures have dramatically impacted the crop. Until final damage is assessed, there is no offer available for barley (or other crops). Rains and floods in France and Germany raise concerns about the final crop quality. Australian and Argentina prices are up to a lesser degree and the analysts expect a further increase given the trends in the other parts of the world.
For crop 2021, any remaining open demand held by buyers (China, maltsters, brewers) who were waiting for the harvest results to bring down the prices is now a serious problem due to the dramatic supply shift and resulting higher prices.
