EU: Central Europe barley crop prospects fair to good
According to the latest report by H. M. Gauger GmbH, the estimated barley crops in Central Europe are:
Austria: winter barley 675 thousand tonnes, spring barley 150 thousand; the Czech Republic: winter barley 790 thousand tonnes, spring barley 1,06 mln tonnes; Slovakia: winter barley 225 thousand tonnes, spring barley 390 thousand; Hungary: winter barley 1.1 mln tonnes, spring barley 230 thousand.
Winter barley use for malt in Central Europe is customary and necessary to avoid high cost deliveries from France or Denmark. In spite of weather problems in the winter/spring, crop prospects are fair to good, the analysts reported.
