EU: Malt export business doing very well
EUs malt export business is very good, as proven by the export figures, 7.3% ahead of last year, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in March.
Good results are also reported from Argentina, Australia, North America.
EU domestic business has been affected by two Covid-19 waves, which reduced beer consumption in virtually all European countries.
Everywhere in the world the on-premise (bars, pubs, restaurants) beer sales suffered badly, off-premise sales did very well, as (bottled) beer consumption changed to private homes.
Maltsters had full and even oversold order books, when the first corona wave started. The large malting companies in and near seaports, also along the large water ways, could continue full or almost full production. Since December inland maltsters had to slow their production.
