China: China�s barley imports may reach up to 10 mln tonnes this season

Australia shipped 1 mln tonnes each of feed and malting barley to China in January-July, the second half 2020 shipments will be negligible, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in October.

Argentina has sold 300-500 thousand tonnes of new crop barley to Chinese buyers and expects to ship a total of 600-800 thousand tonnes in the crop year 2020/21.

Canada shipped 775 thousand tonnes in January-July and reports total new crop sales of 1 mln tonnes of each malting and feed barley. It is anticipated that the total export of Canadian barley will reach 2.5 – 2.8 mln tonnes in 2020/21.

France (as per Taxud) shipped 800 thousand tonnes by 28 September and expects to deliver approximately 2.5 mln tonnes for the year, of which 0.6 – 0.8 mln tonnes of malting and 1.7 – 1.8 mln tonnes of feed barley.

Ukraine supplies only feed barley, its shipments to China in July-August were 1.3 mln tonnes, the quantity for the whole season may reach 2.5 mln tonnes.

In total, according to H. M. Gauger GmbH analysts, China may import from its (Australia-) ersatz suppliers 8.5 – 10.0 mln tonnes of barley, of which 2.7 – 3.0 mln tonnes of FAQ and malting barley. This quantity is not fully covered yet. The Chinese demand is constructive for barley markets, particularly malting barley.
