Russia & Ukraine: 2019/20 barley exports top 5 mln tonnes in Ukraine and 3 mln in Russia
Barley exports in 2019/20 were 5.14 mln tonnes from Ukraine, and 3.6 mln tonnes from Russia. The new campaign started with 400 thousand tonnes from Russia and so far 530 thousand tonnes from Ukraine, however, there is a huge line-up of vessels for China in Ukrainian ports, total early shipments are estimated to reach 1.0 mln tonnes, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in August.
Barley crop forecasts of UkrAgroConsult are 7.9 mln tonnes in Ukraine and 18.7 mln tonnes in Russia (the USDA estimate is only 17.3 mln tonnes). Harvest progress is 80% in Ukraine and 25% in Russia.
According to the analysts, farmers are very reluctant sellers in both countries: no wonder, export shipments to China and Saudi Arabia are very substantial for the early campaign.
