Barley news EU: Barley production and consumption expected to decline in 2020/21

According to the EU Commission’s July 30 Supply & Demand Balance estimate, the EU-27 barley output is expected to reach 54.101 mln tonnes in 2020/21, down from 55.111 mln in 2019/20.

Barley imports are forecast to decline too: to 1.377 mln tonnes vs. 2 mln tonnes in 2019/20.

Consumption is seen at 43.698 mln tonnes, again, down from 44.086 mln tonnes in the previous year.

Barley exports, including malt, are forecast to increase from 10.1 mln tonnes to 10.8 mln in 2020/21.

The 2020/21 EU-27 barley ending stocks are expected to increase to 6.667 mln tonnes from 5.686 mln tonnes in 2019/20.
