Mercosur: Harvest of barley is finished in Parana, approaching its end in Rio Grande do Sul. It just started in Uruguay, not yet in Argentina. In Brazil harvested yields and qualities are reported to be excellent, and prospects are equally good in Uruguay and Argentina. Figures are not available yet, except an estimate for Argentina: 290,000 Ha x 2.9 tonnes = production 840,000 tonnes. That would be lower than last years crop of 1 million tonnes, but well above local needs of 500,000 tonnes. There is still a carry-over existing from last year. According to experts, Mercosur as a whole expects to produce a great export surplus, local prices, though, will make exports difficult or almost impossible.
