Barley news World: Discount versus wheat makes barley attractive in most markets

In most markets of the world the discount versus wheat makes barley an attractive feed component, and usage will most likely increase during the campaign, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their August report.

The flow of barley in world markets has changed after the introduction of China’s penalty duty on Australian barley.

On July 20, SAGO (the Saudi Arabian Standards Organisation) purchased 725 thousand tonnes of optional feed barley for October-November arrival, at an average price of USD211.50 CIF. In their last tender they only had to pay USD199 CIF.

Harvest is underway in East and West Europe with variable, but altogether fair results. Prospects are good in the U.S., Canada and Australia, uncertain in Argentina, the analysts said.
