World: Global hop harvest expected at around 122 thousand tonnes this year
On July 30, the IHGC had a meeting in Ljubljana, Slovenia, where preliminary estimates concerning this years hop harvest were made.
Based on these numbers, we should expect a world hop harvest of approx. 122,000 tonnes (previous year: 119,500 tonnes) which equals an average crop, HVG Hopfenverwertungsgenossenschaft e.G. reported on August 9.
It has to be stressed, however, that the weather conditions in the next few weeks have a decisive influence on yields as well as alpha acid contents. Therefore, the preliminary estimates of the IHGC are only a first indication of this years crop situation.
The official crop estimate for all German hop growing regions will take place from August 16 21, 2019.
