Russia: Malt production down 4.8% in 2016
According to a recent research by Discovery Research Group, Russias malt output totaled 1.144 mln tonnes last year 4.8% below 2015.
In the first half of 2017, the nation produced 611.5 thousand tonnes, the Beer Business magazine reported on December 15.
Malt imports amounted to 137.9 thousand tonnes last year and 53.5 thousand tonnes in the first half of 2017, it is reported.
Last year, Russia mostly imported malt from Belarus and Kazakhstan (41.3% and 21.4% of total malt imports, respectively). Viking Malt is the third-largest malt exporter in Russia with a share of 16.7% of the total imports.
As per Discovery Research Group data, Russian malt exports were 71 thousand tonnes last year and 29.4 thousand tonnes in H1 2017.
Russias main malting capacities are located in the central regions Tula, Yaroslavl, Belgorod, and Saint-Petersburg.
