Russia & Ukraine: Record barley crop expected in Russia, Ukraines crop smaller due to reduced plantings this year
Analysts predict record crops for Russia, 80 mln tonnes of wheat and 20 mln tonnes of barley. Traders reports confirm quantities and good qualities, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their September report.
Barley yields are 3.3 tonnes/ha for the first half of the harvest vs. only 2.6 tonnes last year. Exports should rise to 4.5 5.0 mln tonnes, of which 1.03 mln tonnes were already shipped during July/15 August, the analysts said citing local sources.
Ukraine had cut down barley plantings by 370,000 ha, harvest is finished, yields were slightly better than last year. The final crop result is 8.61 mln tonnes vs. 9.77 a year ago, exports are expected lower at 4.0 4.5 mln tonnes (last year 5.35); shipments by August 15 stood already at 1.55 mln tonnes.
In the analysts opinion, Black Sea barley will still dominate world markets for a long time to come.
